HE Otabek Akbarov welcomes UCLan to the Uzbek Embassy in London
HE Otabek Akbarov, Ambassador of the republic of Uzbekistan met with Angeline Ward from the international office at their London Embassy.
They held discussions on UCLan’s current collaboration with Uzbek universities – Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry and the Tashkent Oriental Institute. Angeline briefed him on UCLan programmes in Preston and Cyprus and discussed how we can work together to increase UCLan awareness in Uzbekistan through university collaborations, extending our agency network, working with the Education Ministry and our summer english language programmes.
The ambassador was pleased with UCLan’s commitment to participate in the StyleUZ Fashion week in Tashkent from 22nd to 27th October. UCLan will be represented by the Dean of School of Art, Design and Performance Glenda Brindle, Director of the Fashion Institute Rory Turner and two students Emma Robertson and Jennifer O Reilly. They will conduct master classes, exhibit their work and hold discussions with students and professionals from the Uzbekistan Fashion industry. The British Council in Tashkent have helped organise the event.
Ambassador Akbarov commented that he had heard of UCLan and was very pleased that we had taken the initiative and committed to work with Uzbek institutions, and promised that his embassy would support us to extend UCLan brand awareness and increase the number of students from Uzbekistan. He was pleased that UCLan are offering Uzbekistan students scholarships of unto £2,500 per year in country bursary and Vice-Chancellor’s award.
