A very Guild-y weekend!
Last weekend saw the finale of the Preston Guild festival and I was lucky enough to participate in two of the key events!
On Friday night, classical/opera singers Jose Carreras and Katherine Jenkins performed an exclusive open-air concert at Avenham Park, right on the university’s door step! The crowd brought deck chairs and picnics and thoroughly enjoyed the orchestra and performance. Fireworks topped an atmospheric and memorable evening!
The following evening saw the people of Preston line the streets in their thousands for the largest of the Guild parades – The Torchlight Procession! Around 80 organisations were represented by decorated floats and walking representatives – a really party atmosphere. I was with the Brownies and Guides, waving illuminated streamers as we paraded next to our internationally themed float.
A fantastic end to a fabulous international festival. I wonder where we’ll all be in 2032 when the next Guild arrives?
