St Georges Day – 23rd April 2012

Today is Saint George’s Day, the feast day of Saint George and the traditionally accepted date of Saint George’s death in AD 303.  It is celebrated by various Christian churches and by the several nations, kingdoms, countries, and cities of which Saint George is the patron saint.  St George’s emblem, a red cross on a white background, is the flag of England, and part of the British flag.

Although there tend not to be any major celebrations of St George’s Day in the UK, those who do celebrate it, will often wear a red rose in their button hole.

Happy St George’s Day to all.
